Syria strife sparks clash in Lebanon

Civil unrest in Syria has begun to creep into neighboring country, Lebanon. (UPI)

DAMASCUS, Syria (UPI) -- Syria's ongoing political violence has apparently spilled over into neighboring Lebanon where residents of two towns clashed, officials said.

Lebanon's National News Agency said Sunday a Lebanese soldier and a civilian were killed when fighting erupted between people from a Sunni town and another community where residents support Syria's President Bashar Assad.

The clash came as tensions inside Syria mounted after an unknown terrorist organization surfaced to claim credit for last week's two deadly suicide bombings in Damascus.

A militant Muslim group called the Al Nusra Front released a 2-minute video Saturday saying the bombings were in retaliation for attacks on civilians by forces loyal to Assad.

The video appeared to bolster government claims that Islamist terrorist groups from outside Syria had taken over the rebellion; however, CNN said opposition groups were blaming Assad loyalists for the bombings in an attempt to derail the push for democratic reforms.

Meanwhile, opposition activists told CNN that Syrian troops killed at least five people in an assault on the city of Hama. Explosions of unknown origin were also reported in Deir Ezzor province and the southern city of Douma.

Assad? He's British edjumicated (he's got the right cooiectnnns), and he hasn't had the oil money to have bought anyone likely to want him silenced for good.we might yet come to thank the big 0, oil appears to be a curse; suddenly a nation thinks it is special, and the government can buy folk off, until it all runs out, then it's back to herding camels, only with 10 times the population, and all with delusions of grandeur.
