Lebanon: Hezbollah builds new bases

BEIRUT, Lebanon (UPI) -- Hezbollah has set up what appears to be a military training ground in eastern Lebanon near the Syrian border, analysts and intelligence officials said.

The camp in Lebanon's Bekka Valley came into focus after new satellite images were recently uploaded to Google Earth's online portal, The (Beirut) Daily Star reported.

Located in rugged hills near Janta, the facility includes what appears to be a suspected driver-training course, a firing range and a possible urban assault course, image analysts said.

The Google Earth images also reveal considerable construction activity in sealed-off Hezbollah security areas in southern Lebanon.

European intelligence officials said the scale of the activity suggests that Hezbollah has been preparing for the possibility of another conflict with Israel.

Diplomatic sources told the Daily Star that when a former defense attache for the Dutch Embassy in Damascus drove into the hills in 2010 he was stopped at a checkpoint by armed Hezbollah fighters.

Hizbollah and Hamas will have only themselves to blame for the coartaelll damage they recieve should they agree to help roll them in... ditto their "UNFIL allies".Where will the fallout land? Whose animals, water and crops will be fouled with radioactive contamination? How rapdily will the Red Crescent come to the aid of the Jordanians and Iraqis downwind in the plume of fallout? Is it their glorius fate to be martyrs, though at the hands of other mohammedans? Will that aid come in the guise of an invasion force of Pasdaran cannon fodder? I suspect that Gideon is selecting the few that will send the enemies of Israel into panic and at each others throats.

Hezbollahâs allies are corrupt. No argument there. But who says Hezbollah themselves are not corrupt? Hezbollah do a good job in marketing themselves as the holy ones with the holy cause, but they are far from being wholesome. Historically no resistance has been successful without outside support. And this continues to be true today. Libya is a good example. But we would be making a big mistake if we think Hezbollah see Iran as âOutside helpâ. Hezbollah see themselves as an extension to the Pasdaran. So we need to stop dreaming of Hezbollah one day will become humble and turn into a democratic Lebanese political party.Their ideology dictates them to think beyond Lebanese borders. After all they had to have a Fatwa from the supreme ruler for them to recognize and participate in the Lebanon elections. And that was not for the sake of the Lebanese democratic system. As the saying goes, the end justifies the means.If Hezbollah truly were thinking as a âLebanese resistanceâ they would not have liquidated all their supposedly brothers in arms in the 80s and 90s. What happened to Amal, the Socialists, Communists and SSNP resistance in the south? The similarities with Hezbollah are that all parties were militarized, some more heavily then Hezbollah, and they all acted like any military group in the world during a civil war(if we can call it civil war). But this is where the similarities end. And the difference is bigger than just making the crossover to political means.The other parties, at least the ones I associate myself with, believe in Lebanon. Of course they may have different views on how the Lebanese system should be: Decentralize, Federal, centralized etc. They may also had different methods of achieving it during the war, regardless if those methods were right or wrong. Whatever it was, they still believe in Lebanon as a sovereign state.Hezbollah however do not have this belief. For them accepting a democratic process is only a tool to achieve their bigger goal.Going back to my earlier post, their allies are also a tool until they are no longer needed.I will draw the similarities between Hezbollahâs behavior in Lebanon and what happened in Iran during the revolution. Hi Kristina. I’m enjoying reading about your experience, especially your most recent poem. Life moves on here. My little guys were all tigers and dinosaurs today ROARRRRRRRRRRRR! I am teaching one class at TCC. It’s humbling, confusing and wonderful. I feel like a first year teacher. At a yoga retreat last weekend, I found myself meditating on the concept “I have no idea what it is like to be in your body” and am finding this mantra to be quite freeing as well as opening me to greater compassion. Seems I was so busy concentrating on ways I can relate to everyone that I forgot the simple practice of recognizing the ways in which I cannot relate at all. Somehow in recognizing the aloneness of human experience, I’m finding a deeper connection to everything. Counterintuitive and just plain weird, but worth the effort. Just to add a little to the point Genius was making about how 95% of the Israeli population support the present millitary action, look at the defense minister Amir Peretz. He has strong roots in the union movement, is a tireless advocate on behalf of the less fortunate and very dovish. He's also the Labour Party leader and porbably someone whom a lot of lefties in NZ would be on side with. But he also suppports the present millitary action.Now I don't have much of a problem with idiot's criticism of some of Israel's actions, he at least doesn't indulge in the conspircay stuff. But the above points are worth taking into account in terms of actually looking at how to deal with what's going on.By all means critise Israel for the civilian deaths and infrastructure destruction but until the international community can come up with a solution to the threats to Israel then there is very little to be gained and Israel will do what it has to do with as we are seeing the support of very many Israelis who would prefer a peaceful stettlement.So on the basis of that, despite all the qualms I have, I'd support Irsael getting those guided bombs. cheapest car insurance car insurance
