Jetliner makes emergency stop in Newark
No injuries were reported in the emergency landing made by a jetliner in Newark International Airport. (UPI/Bill Greenblatt)
(UPI) -- A United Shuttle Air Express jetliner made a safe emergency landing in Newark, N.J., Monday evening without its front wheels deployed, authorities said.
No injuries were reported among the 71 people on board following the plane's landing at Newark Liberty International Airport about 6:22 p.m. EST, fire officials and Port Authority officials told The (Newark) Star-Ledger.
The plane had been en route from Atlanta to Newark when hydraulic problems with its front landing gear were detected, the newspaper said.
Authorities shut down the entire airport during the incident, port authority officials said.
Television footage showed the plane came to a stop with the underside of its nose resting on the tarmac. Numerous emergency vehicles, including at least two ambulances, a crash truck and several police cars were at the scene.
The passengers were evacuated and taken by bus to a nearby terminal.

Those are good questions. The first parparagh of questions I'll leave for later, but yes, I do address them in my book.As to flogging being constitutional... it's never been banned by the court. So right now it is constitutional. And who knows what the current court would say. But it may be a moot point because as I propose it, nobody would be sentenced to flogging. It would be a choice to stay out of prison. And with the consent of the flogged, I don't know who could actually bring a lawsuit.And there are some differences between flogging and whipping, but they're not important as far as my argument is concerned. I propose flogging like they do in Singapore, which is with a cane on the ass, mostly just because it lets me avoid having to reinvent the wheel.

Vacation in Newark???? I don’t think so!!You don’t want to drive into NYC, unless money is no object and you can afford the parking, in which case you wouldn’t be considering staying in Newark. If you’re going to see the sights in NYC, then stay in NYC. The commute isn’t worth the hassle. To save money, you could try Priceline or Hotwire. Or you could save money by renting an apt/condo [try HomeAway.com] because you could prepare some of your own meals.If you must stay in NJ, look into maybe the hotel in Weehawken that is right near the ferry stop – there’s a ferry that goes between Weehawken and NYC and that might be an alternative.For info from past guests about hotels anywhere, go to TripAdvisor.com. You can also save some money [perhaps - you'll have to calculate whether it's a good deal for you] with CityPass.com.Oh – one thing you can do that’s free is to take the Staten Island Ferry [probably don't want to do this at rush hour!]. It leaves from South Ferry, goes past the Statue of Liberty and gives you a great view of the NY skyline. Another inexpensive thing to do is to walk the Brooklyn Bridge from Brooklyn to Manhattan. The only reason to stay in Newark is if you’re flying, not driving to New York. In that case, do not rent a car, as tolls, car rental, and extremely expensive parking will eat up more money than any hotel savings, not to mention the headaches of getting into the city every day by car. It’s not a bad trip by train.I’m not recommending Newark, even in that case, but if you stay in a hotel in Elizabeth NJ, by the airport, you’ll save money and you won’t actually go into Newark, so it won’t be too bad. (I don’t think sleeping by the airport is that great either though.)If you’re driving and you insist on staying outside the city, stay in Croton Harmon or some other express metro north stop in westchester. Save on parking and take the train into the city.Otherwise, there are some relatively good deals in the city. Try the Roosevelt off Times Sq. My wife and I had a lot of family staying there during our wedding and the prices were pretty good. There’s also an econolodge just a few blocks from Times Sq. I’m still in the ‘love’ camp but 4 nights at a time is my limit. We are literally just back after visiting for the twelth time this weekend, after a heaving ‘Cinco De Mayo’ weekend when a big boxing match was in town also. It was mad & soooo noisy but that’s Vegas.We also don’t gamble but did waste a whole $10. The only thing we gamble with when we visit is our sanity & our waistlines!! Walking up & down The Strip helps to balance out the 24 hour buffet deal for $45 each. If you plan it right you can get 4 meals at least in & even if you fancied an ice cream cone you could pop in for that! This time there were no queues at all but as always the food is luke warm.The shows are something else & there are great free shows like the Bellagio fountains & The Fremont Street Experience which are both ‘must sees’ on a very long list of ‘must sees’.The fact that they are appealing to Stag & Hen parties primarily now is a concern as I would hate to see the people who like to drink to excess take the place over & trash it but hopefully the local police & authorities will keep a lid on it. It was noticeable in just 18 months how the place was ‘morphing’ yet again.I agree about either loving or hating it & I can see how people could view it either way. However I feel it’s a special place everyone should experience, even if they never return.It’s also a great gateway as within a few hours you can escape the lunacy in favour of the calm & scenic National Parks, which is exactly what we’ve just done. A ‘Beauty & The Beast’ tour I called it.If you are an Elton John fan you simply MUST go while he’s at Caesars.
