Chris Christie for President? Only If We Have To
()
Herman Cain who has soared in the polls recently, told Fox News Sunday that the New Jersey Governor is too liberal on many key issues and once conservative voters discover this they will be unable to back him. That view was echoed by Family Research Council President Tony Perkins who told the National Press Club that social conservatives make up some 50% of GOP primary voters and some of the Governor's views will alienate the evangelical vote. The reality as I see it, is that for quite a while Christie has been fine tuning his views in preparation for a presidential run, a run that will position him to the left of all of the current major Republican hopefuls.
When Chris Christie wanted to become the governor of New Jersey, he was a frequent guest on my radio show. The day after he won the general election, I had to track him down on his cell phone to get him to come on, which he did. But from that point on, it was like pulling teeth. If Christie graced our microphone it was once every four months or so, for 10 minutes at a time on the phone. Yes, I believe the calculation was made to distance himself from conservative talk radio very early on, with an eye on higher political aspirations.
When he did appear, his move to the left was obvious. Why didn't New Jersey join with over 20 other states and sign on to the lawsuit against Obamacare? The Governor replied that the state didn't have the money to participate in the legal wrangling but not to worry, NJ would benefit anyway if Obamacare was ruled unconstitutional. I asked Christie how much it would have cost the state and he said he didn't know. I later asked the Attorney General of Texas how much it cost each state to be on board and it turns out we're talking only several thousand dollars. So Christie apparently had political reasons for staying out of it.
What about the proposed mosque at Ground Zero Governor? I would have expected that a man representing a state that had lost nearly 700 people on 9/11 would at least have an opinion but he did not. Christie told me that it wasn't his place or any politician's place to get involved in the issue.
So I guess that I should not have been surprised when several months later he nominated Sohail Mohammed to a Superior Court judgeship, a position he now holds in Passaic County. Now, I have no problem with the man being a Muslim. I have a problem with what Mohammed believes. For example, after the arrest of the suspects in the "Fort Dix Six" case, where six Muslim men were charged with plotting to kill as many of our soldiers as possible at the facility, Mohammed objected to the government referring to these Islamic would be terrorists as "Islamic". He said that religion had nothing to do with it. Really? I can only assume that the Governor would agree with this politically correct nonsense or why put the man on the bench? In fact Christie has labeled as "crazies" those of us who have questioned certain positions held by Mr. Mohammed.

Want some more? Christie is now on board as a believer in global warming. A year ago he wasn't so sure but now, with the White House in sight, he says climate change is real and we are a big part of the problem. On illegal immigration, U.S. Attorney Chris Christie once said that being in the country without documentation is not a crime, unless you are kicked out once and then come back in illegally again. Got it?
I do believe that Chris Christie has been running for president since he became the governor of New Jersey. I think he will run and will come out blasting Obama and the current Republican field. The other day he spoke at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library where I heard him break Reagan's Eleventh Commandment, "Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican." While talking about the need to compromise and the recent debt ceiling battle, Christie blasted house Republicans who decided to keep their word to the people who elected them. "We watch a Congress at war with itself because they are unwilling to leave campaign style politics at the Capitol's door."
The Republican party can do better than Chris Christie.

Geez Steve you forgot Happy Harry, Alan Levin!Lets face the music. Where the hell is that Rainy Day fund, how much is in it...and where is the proof it esxits?Delaware isnt the corporate banking/creditcard/insurance State for nothing. We have been ENRONIZED! The suits are back in power and they will make sure everyone is amongst the working poor, rather than adopt and change some of the horrific laws in this state. What about the prisoners, where are the furloughs? Where are more group homes for folks at DPC. It costs $360,000 a year for institutional care, and $100,000 for community group homes! It costs $30,000 for a state worker in an insitution while direct care workers in the community are paid $10.00 an hour.Blind leading the blind!

Hazel thanks for your note. (LOVE The Sartorialist!!). All black is often the default colour because it's the easier to unify (imagine an ensemble full of slightly different shades of red), it's easy on the eyes, and the audience tends to focus more on the music than if the ensemble were wearing different colours. The problem with saying go for it, wear any colour is what one person considers stylish another will consider completely inappropriate. There there's the issue of colour clashing. And in classical music, there are known stereotypes about what kind of dress is associated with certain types of music. Opera performers (and audiences) tend to go all out with style and flamboyance; Baroque performers (and audiences) tend not to consider fashion a big deal and are very low-key with their apparel. Ultimately, no, I don't think ensembles should be able to wear any colour; then it looks like a rehearsal. car insurence health insurance coverage
