Butcher gets 20 years for cutting up wife

NEW YORK(UPI) -- A former New York City butcher convicted of chopping up his wife and hiding her remains was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Edwin Fuentes, 44, pleaded guilty last month to choking his wife, Reina De Los Santos, to death in June 2007, the New York Daily News reported. He also admitted to dismembering her body and hiding her remains in a wooded area near their Queens home. "I'm hoping that, maybe, they cut you up like you did my sister," Marisol De Los Santos, sister of the deceased, said before the plea-bargained sentence was made official. "Your mother must be turning over knowing she carried a demon like you in her womb. If it was up to me, you would go to hell," she said. "I'm sorry for what I've done," Fuentes told the judge. "I apologize." Queens Supreme Court Justice Gregory Lasak said he had never presided over a case like Fuentes's. "It's horrific. It's sick," the judge said. "I've never seen anything like this. No sentence could punish him for what he did."
